    About The Author

    Introduction

“The Healing Conscious” is a stirring collection of poems depicting the last words of a dying man, commencing with his imminent death and spiritual rebirth in America, transgressing to this birth and conception in Ethiopia. The narrator recounts memorable moments during his life and those of his immediate family during this period in a brief moment of conscious reflection. A colorful portrait is painted of a young Ethiopian boy who traveled across the world, raised a family and became a successful man.

These poems, written in a uniquely-modern format, reflect a journey of sacrifice, courage and strength. The ideals of cultural preservation, respect, and love intertwine with each person encountered along the narrator’s journey and serve as inspiration to all people, regardless of race, religion or sex. For in this day and age where the values of family, love, cultural sensitivity and respect seem to fade rapidly as a once ambitious dream, we can all learn to value and incorporate each other’s life experiences into our own. Whether or not we are aware of or attuned to our culture, it is difficult to deny its innate presence flowing in our veins as an inherent part of our being.

    Reader Reviews

See what readers are saying about this powerful poetic work...

The birth of a new talent....

"it is an art to use simplicity to evoke powerful life and death emotions from the reader, and of course, the author is an 'artist' who 'paints' literary images with his words"

    -- Amazon, January 2006.

Opening this book of poetry gave way to shivers....

"Kifle Bantayehu has written about a remarkable journey - one filled with happiness and sorrow, a mixture of day to day living and hours spent in grief and longing. Looking back now as I sit and type my review for you to read, I can only hope that I will do this young man justice. It's not every day that one is touched in this way. To feel voiceless when I need to speak and wanting to express what I feel inside when no thought can possibly convey the emotions in the proper way - that is how I'm feeling right at this moment."

-- In The Library Review, January 2005.

    Eloquently Composed…

"The Healing Conscious is a fabulous poetry book depicting the life of a family over a generation. It is very eloquently composed and easy-to-read. Kudos to the author for documenting such a healing masterpiece!"

-- Five Stars from an Amazon.com reader from Washington, D.C.

    A unique artistic capture....

"a style of poetry you could be lost in, one that takes you into the mind and culture of a dying old man balancing his desires and his culture. It is a book that communicates the sorrows and worries, the pride and triumphs of a life well-lived. It is poetry that sent me analyzing my self, and giving value to some of my daily thoughts."

-- Four stars from an Amazon.com reader in Atlanta, GA.

"Recommended to all reader types, even those who aren't accustom to reading poetry. What an excellent addition to any library!"

-- Midwest Book Review, August 2004
